EdSteps invites teachers, students and adults of all ages to help us to transform education and assessment through the power of real student work.
Phase One EdSteps is currently in Phase One of the project. In this Phase, EdSteps invites teachers, students and adults of all professions to register with EdSteps and upload samples of their work in Writing and Global Competence. Coming soon, EdSteps will be soliciting work in three additional skill categories:
- Creativity
- Analyzing Information
- Problem Solving

Phase Two In Phase Two, EdSteps will ask teachers, students and adults of all professions to read and evaluate the sample work. The work will be presented to raters two pieces at a time. Raters will be asked to choose which one of the two pieces best demonstrates mastery of a skill. Raters will then be asked to briefly describe why and on what criteria they made their choice. EdSteps intends to enter Phase Two of the project by summer 2010.
Phase Three In Phase Three, EdSteps will publish continuums - a gradual progression - from emerging to accomplished work samples in each skill area. These continuums will be available online through the EdSteps website for teachers, students and their families to use in helping to assess their progress and develop strategies for growth in key skill areas. EdSteps hopes to begin publishing the first sample work scales in fall 2010.
